How to Download Videos from Imgur, Redgifs, and Streamable on Reddit

Reddit Posts with External Video Links

Not everything on Reddit is hosted on Reddit. A huge amount of content, especially videos and GIFs, lives on external platforms like Imgur, Redgifs, Streamable, and Gfycat. When someone shares a video from one of these platforms on Reddit, the post just links to the external source.

This can make downloading tricky if you're using a tool that only handles Reddit-hosted content. The good news is that Viddit handles all of these sources automatically.

How Viddit Handles External Sources

Here's the simple version: you don't need to do anything different. Just copy the Reddit post URL and paste it into Viddit, the same way you would for any other Reddit video. Viddit looks at the post, figures out where the content is actually hosted, and downloads it from the source.

You don't need to find the direct Imgur link or the Streamable URL yourself. Viddit does that work for you.

Supported Platforms

Viddit currently supports downloading content from these external sources when they're linked on Reddit:

  • Imgur - Images, GIFs, and video content. Includes support for Imgur albums and galleries.
  • Redgifs - GIFs and short video clips.
  • Streamable - Video content at various quality levels.
  • Gfycat - GIFs and short videos (now part of Snapchat).

Each of these platforms has its own way of serving content, but Viddit handles the differences behind the scenes.

Step-by-Step: Downloading External Content from Reddit

  1. Find a Reddit post that links to Imgur, Redgifs, Streamable, or another supported platform.
  2. Tap Share on the Reddit post and select Copy Link.
  3. Go to viddit.io and paste the Reddit post link.
  4. Click Download.
  5. Viddit will detect the external source, fetch the content, and give you download options.

What About Embedded Content?

Sometimes Reddit embeds external content directly in the post, so it looks like it's playing on Reddit itself. Even in these cases, the actual file lives on the external platform. Viddit follows the source link and grabs the original file for you.

Tips for External Content Downloads

  • Always use the Reddit post URL, not the direct link to the external platform. Viddit is designed to work with Reddit links.
  • If a post links to an Imgur album with multiple items, Viddit will let you access the content from the album.
  • Some external platforms may have content that's no longer available. If the original has been taken down on Imgur or Streamable, Viddit won't be able to download it either.

When Something Doesn't Work

If Viddit can't download content from an external source, it's usually because:

  • The external content has been deleted or removed.
  • The platform has changed how it serves content (we update Viddit to keep up with these changes).
  • The Reddit post uses an unsupported external host.
